Lost Your Car Keys? Do These 5 Things First
We take lost-key calls across Marietta, Smyrna, Kennesaw and metro Atlanta every day. Before you call a tow truck or the dealership, work through this checklist — it usually saves both time and money.
1. Confirm the key is actually lost
Check the last places the vehicle was used, coat pockets, and the trunk. Smart keys are small and frequently turn up. If it may have been stolen rather than lost, mention that when you call — we will delete the old key from the vehicle.
2. Find your VIN
The VIN is on the driver-side dashboard, the door jamb sticker, and your insurance card. Having it ready lets us confirm the exact key type and bring the right blank on the first trip.
3. Do not tow it yet
A mobile automotive locksmith can cut and program a new key where the vehicle sits. Towing to a dealership adds cost and days of waiting for most makes and models.
4. Ask for a spare while we are there
The second key is dramatically cheaper when it is programmed in the same visit. Almost every customer who declines a spare calls us again later.
5. Call a licensed local specialist
Verify the company is licensed, insured and locally based. National call centers frequently dispatch subcontractors with no equipment for smart keys or push-to-start systems.
